Child Obesity is another major problem because a rapid weight gain during infancy is associated with obesity later in life.
When a child has a poor diet and exercise pattern, it is difficult to change these habits later in life.

At the OLIC, a sample of young people are supervised and monitored by a team of experts involved in the health and lifestyles of children.

Members of the expert team come from various settings: hospitals, municipal health, mental health, home care, general practitioners and educational institutions.

Obesity Lifestyle Intervention Center (OLIC)
The OLIC combines knowledge, healthcare development, applied research and product development in one organization, and it will be the leading player in the field of innovation around obesity. The OLIC has three prominent pillars: the OLIC Innovation Center, the OLIC Expertise Center and the OLIC Treatment Center.

The private sector plays a vital role in the OLIC Innovation Center’s work, since businesses are able to perform (applied) research close to the target group. The Innovation Center offers companies the opportunity to participate in a “Living Lab” concept: a (virtual) lab where products and services may be developed and tested. Sometimes this happens within the hospital environment, sometimes beyond. The OLIC offers a total concept: in addition to developing and testing products and services regarding obesity, the OLIC supervises in attracting, organizing and profiling innovative projects which should result in new products and/or services.

In the OLIC Expertise Center, knowledge is built up and developed around childhood obesity. Networking with other initiatives in the areas of (childhood) obesity is an important part in this. The research will be presented in an accessible way to different audiences associated with OLIC.

Care fulfillment is done close to the customer (patient), in the OLIC Treatment Center. The treatment center is a collaboration between all parties in a particular region that are involved in improving the lifestyle of children. Promising elements of the OLIC Innovation Center will be proven on a larger scale.
