Concept development Oncology & Food

Project of the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in collaboration with Ericsson, Innoflow and Minase.

Forty to fifty percent of all patients that are diagnosed with cancer show a decrease in appetite and exercise needs. A direct consequence is that their physical condition declines even before actual hospital treatment starts.

Hospitals give patients guidance in this, including advice from dietitians. This project goes a step further: through research, testing and product development it looks for possible improvements to the quality of life of people in treatment for cancer, by developing a coherent set of products and services. The product/service development focuses on three pillars:

  • The development of new food products that contribute to improving the immune system of patients.
  • The development of new instructional, ICT and food services that contribute to the nutritional pattern of cancer patients at home.
  • The development of diagnostic and support tools for the most effective implementation of treatment and counseling.

The project will develop an approach that is particularly attractive to companies within the food, medical and ICT sectors in the region. Moreover, this approach may result in cost savings through decreased use of medication and a shorter hospital stay and treatment period.
